MARY KRUG was Vice President and Division Merchandise Manager, Neiman Marcus Stores, a division of Neiman Marcus Group.

Mary grew up on a small farm in rural Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. After attending elementary school at a one-room schoolhouse, she graduated from Sauk Rapids High School in 1969. After that, she went to St. Cloud State and then to the University of Minnesota, where she graduated with a BA in Textiles and Business. She then hopped a train to New York City and began, at Macy’s, her illustrious retail career.

She was at Bergdorf Goodman in 1974, and later joined Neiman Marcus stores in 1983 as Buyer in Bridge Sportswear.
In the ensuing years, Mary was a Buyer for Better Sportswear Separates / Knitwear, Casual Legwear/Hosiery. In 1986 she became the Escada Buyer and shepherded that business to record growth and market dominance. She was a Merchandise Manager in NorthPark from 1991-1993, then Director, Human Resources, with responsibility for placing and developing the merchant teams. She became an Officer and DMM in 1995 with responsibility for Couture II/Evening followed in 1998 as the DMM for Gift Galleries, 2001 in Intimate Apparel with added responsibility for Children's in 2007, a position she held until her death.

Mary was named NM Best in 1990, NMG's highest associate honor. Mary personified Neiman Marcus excellence, and she truly was the best of the best. Mary left a great legacy at NMG and it thrives today in the dozens of buyers, assistant buyers, and vendors that she trained and educated over the years. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, gracious demeanor, and great elegance.

Following the news of her death in November 2013, a group of industry executives – men and women who knew Mary well – committed to establish a scholarship in her memory, for students of fashion merchandising.
